Jesus gave us an example prayer so that we could know how to pray and it's in... Matthew 6:9-13
"This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread . 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."
In order to have an effective prayer you need to...
1. Believe it will happen (have faith)
Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
2. Be righteous...
1 Peter 3:12 "For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers, but the face of the Lord are against them that do evil."
3. Make sure your prayer lines up with the will of God. (example: if you pray that your school teacher will fall off a cliff, God won't answer that. because you need to love your neighbor and not have hateful thoughts towards her.)
1 John 5:14 "And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, he heareth us."
James 4:3 "Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may comsume it upon your lusts."
